My Red ‘86 CRX Si

Way back in August of 1986, I was waiting for two truckloads of new 1986 Hondas to arrive in time for our Grand Opening! When they finally came, I noticed on the second truck, one of the rarest Hondas around: a 1986 Honda CRX Si. At the time, a brand new bright red CRX Si was a pretty rare thing to see, and now our new dealership had one!

Looking back, I think that red CRX Si was the second car we sold during our Grand Opening. But wouldn’t ya know it, 14 years later, that memorable car showed up at our dealership as a trade. Through the service records, we were able to verify it was in fact the same original red Si we sold back in ‘86. So, being in a nostalgic mood, I decided to keep the car for myself. I restored and drove it for several years, reliving the 80’s in a bright red car that still looked new. It was a fun conversation piece too, until a customer kept pestering me to sell it to them. After several months, I relented.

A few more years went by and I was able to buy it back from the customer. That was 2002, and I kept it for another 9 years… trying my best to keep it ’showroom new.’ Well, darn if I haven’t sold it again. I guess I realize I can’t keep all the vintage Hondas I have collected over 25 years, (although I still have 7)! The mechanic who appraised the rare ‘86 CRX Si told its new owner it was the nicest one he had ever seen. So while we continue to sell used cars and used Hondas in Corvallis, some of these cars have a pretty unique story!
