Honda’s Hybrid Semi Truck

Have you seen the Chevy commercial, where in it, Howie Long Bashes the Honda Civic, Accord and Pilot? At the end he makes a joke, saying, “The only thing Honda makes that Chevy can’t compete with is a lawnmower,” (Ha Ha, right?). I’m sure Chevy’s Ad Agency had a big sushi dinner after they came up with that zinger! But University Honda’s owner, Ron Theis, likes this ad. He believes that Honda’s continuous involvement in other markets such as lawnmowers, jets, Robots, prosthetic limbs and recently Hybrid Semi-trucks is why everyone should easily choose a Honda over a Chevy. His words were simple: “Are you telling me Chevy can’t even make a lawnmower?”

Honda is always developing new ways to reduce global CO2 and fuel consumption in America. At the American Honda Parts Center, in Alpharetta, GA, they’ve added a Class 8 hybrid diesel electric truck to their transport fleet. With this hybrid truck, it’s expected they can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by almost 45 tons per year, (in comparison to a normal diesel truck).

“We’re excited to add this environmentally advanced truck to our fleet,” said the Vice Prez of Honda Parts & Service. “Our trucks drive hundreds of thousands of miles each day delivering parts. We will be evaluating the fuel economy of this hybrid truck as we send it on flat routs and hilly routs.”

The hybrid truck is built by Peterbuilt and operates much like a hybrid passenger vehicle, utilizing a parallel diesel-electric hybrid system. It captures energy when braking and stores it in the system’s batteries. Then, while the truck is stopped, the heating, AC and electrical systems can still run off that stored power while the engine is off. In addition, Honda will be adding a Class 7 hybrid semi truck (also by Peterbuilt) to it’s parts centers in both Georgia and Texas.

So in conclusion, Honda is continuously working on reducing it’s carbon footprint in the the world, while Chevy has to buy 3 honda vehicles and a lawnmower to make a commercial.
